Overview

Wooorld is a world exploration app for Meta Quest headsets from Wooorld Inc, released on 25 October 2022. It uses Google Earth’s 3D catalogue to let you explore more than 2,500 cities in three dimensions, plus billions of 360° Street View style images, without needing a gaming PC. That alone makes it interesting for schools, because Google Earth VR, the original and still the most impressive option, only runs on PC VR.

Over time Wooorld has added a lot: a mixed reality mode where the 3D map appears on a surface in your real room, multiplayer and co‑op exploring, AI‑supported tours, a camera for photos and avatar selfies, a jetpack mode for flying through cities, voice search for quick jumps between places and a social geo‑guessing game. A German review by heise found it the most feature‑rich of the Google Earth style apps on Quest, while noting that newcomers can find the many options and 2D menus overwhelming.

The Geography Guessing Game Wooorld’s guessing game drops players somewhere on Earth and asks them to work out where they are from the landscape, buildings and signs around them. It is an excellent geography skills activity: students have to use clues such as climate, vegetation, architecture and which side of the road cars drive on. Played in pairs or small groups, it gets everyone talking and reasoning.

For Teachers: Best With Older Students and Good Wi‑Fi Wooorld suits KS3 and GCSE Geography lessons on place, urban change, landmarks and comparing countries, and its guessing game is a superb starter for map and observation skills. Test it on your school network first, because it streams imagery and needs a good connection. Given the Teen rating and online features, use it with secondary students in private sessions, and give them a clear task, such as finding three examples of urban regeneration in a chosen city.

Verdict
Wooorld is the best way to bring Google Earth’s 3D world to a class set of standalone Quest headsets, and its mixed reality map and geography guessing game are genuinely useful for teaching. User reviews are mixed, the interface can overwhelm newcomers, and its Teen rating, online features and paid extras need managing in school. For secondary geography departments with Quest headsets and good Wi‑Fi, it is worth trying; if you have a PC VR setup, Google Earth VR remains the more immersive and free choice.
