VR Giants

One player is Goliath — a towering giant rooted to the earth, able to lift mountains, bridge chasms and shield a tiny companion from harm. The other is David — small, agile, free to roam, but utterly dependent on Goliath to survive. Together, across deserts, glaciers, lava caves and sunlit pastures, you rescue David's lost sheep. The most genuinely teamwork-driven VR co-op game available — and the only one where your friend plays completely free.

⚠️ Early Access · Quest 3/3S Only · Story Not Yet Complete

VR Giants launched on Meta Quest on 11 December 2025 in Early Access — the game is content-complete for its 23 levels but the concluding story outro is still in development. It is also currently Quest 3 and 3S only (not Quest 2). The Steam version has been available since 2023 and supports earlier hardware via PC VR. These are worth knowing before purchase — but current players report a complete and polished experience across the available levels.

🎟️ Free Friend's Pass — Your Co-op Partner Plays Free

One of VR Giants' most celebrated features: buy one copy and your co-op partner joins completely free via a room code system — no second purchase required. They can play as David on another Quest 3, or on a PC via Steam (crossplay fully supported). This dramatically lowers the barrier to entry for school pairs and friend groups. A separate Friends Pass is also available on the Meta Store at reduced price for the second player's account if they want their own copy.

About the Game

What is VR Giants?

VR Giants is an asymmetric co-op platformer from Risa Interactive — a small indie studio founded by Wolfgang Tschauko in Graz, Austria. It launched on Steam Early Access in June 2023 and came to Meta Quest 3 in December 2025. The premise is beautifully simple: one player is Goliath — a massive giant rooted to an anchor point in the landscape — and the other is David, a tiny human companion who must navigate the world on foot. They can only progress together, and they can only succeed by communicating.

As Goliath, you are physically enormous — David is the size of your finger. You can lift him over chasms, use your body as a bridge, shield him from hazards with your palm, hurl objects that are immovable to him, and transform into different elemental forms to unlock new possibilities. But you are chained — your movement is restricted to a set play area around each anchor point, and you depend on David to summon you onwards. As David, you are free but tiny and fragile — you can jump, run, collect coins to open gates, activate switches, and reach places Goliath cannot fit. You depend entirely on Goliath to survive hazards, cross gaps and progress.

Why asymmetric co-op matters in school: Most multiplayer games give every player the same role and the same experience. VR Giants deliberately gives each player a completely different perspective, a different set of abilities, and a different set of dependencies. Goliath cannot succeed without David's agility and reach. David cannot survive without Goliath's strength and protection. The game is structurally a lesson in complementary roles, communication under pressure, and trust — the same dynamics that underpin effective teamwork in any context.

The four biomes — Desert, Glacier, Volcano and Pasture — each introduce new hazards and new expressions of the Goliath forms, keeping the 23-level campaign fresh. The overarching mission is warmly simple: rescue David's lost sheep, scattered across the landscape. The tone is joyful and family-friendly throughout.

Features

What Makes It Special

🦣
The Giant Perspective — Scale as a Game Mechanic
Playing as Goliath in VR is one of the most singular experiences on any headset. David is genuinely tiny — the size of your finger. You watch him run between your hands, jump across gaps you bridge with your body, dodge hazards you shield with your palm. The sense of scale is remarkable and is achieved with none of the motion sickness risks of locomotion-heavy games — Goliath is stationary within each anchor zone, meaning the VR player is physically stable throughout. The VR Realm notes the scale feels "completely natural" within minutes of play.
🔗
Three Goliath Forms — Rocky, Temporary & Lava
Goliath's three elemental forms each create different gameplay dynamics. Rocky Goliath is summoned with a button press and stays permanently — solid, reliable, ideal for bridging. Temporary Goliath only exists while David continuously holds a button — creating a timed pressure mechanic where David must complete a section before releasing. Lava Goliath is made of molten rock and cannot touch David or any wooden objects — requiring careful coordination as Goliath manoeuvres around a tiny, fragile partner. These three forms keep the puzzle design varied across all 23 levels.
🎟️
Free Friend's Pass & Quest↔Steam Crossplay
One purchase covers both players — your co-op partner joins free via room code. They can play on another Quest 3, or on PC via Steam with full crossplay. This is one of the most generous multiplayer pricing models in VR gaming, and massively reduces the cost of deploying VR Giants in a school context. Road to VR specifically highlights the Friend's Pass as one of the game's standout features — "it maximises the opportunity to play regardless of what platforms players have access to."
🎮
Both Players Fully in VR — or Cinema Room Mode
The Quest launch makes both Goliath and David fully playable in VR for the first time — David now has two camera modes in VR: a full immersive first-person view, or a Cinema Room mode that projects David's game onto a large virtual 2D screen within the headset. The Cinema Room is perfect for players who prefer a more relaxed, less intense VR experience while still using the headset — making the game accessible to a wider range of comfort levels within the same session.

4 Biomes · 23 Levels · ~8 Hours
Desert, Glacier, Volcano and Pasture — each biome introduces new visual environments and new mechanical challenges. David's vulnerability to fire in the lava caves; the slippery surfaces and ice mechanics of the glacier levels; the open sun-drenched Pasture. Collectible cosmetics are hidden throughout for completionists. The ~8 hour campaign is substantial for a co-op platformer, giving genuine replay value for school pairs working through it across multiple sessions.

Communication & Trust
The asymmetric design means players must describe what they can see from their perspective, give and receive instructions clearly, and trust each other's judgement under time pressure. This is oracy in action — specifically the kind of collaborative, task-focused communication that PSHE and English teachers work to develop.
⚖️
Complementary Roles
Neither player can progress alone. Goliath has strength but no mobility; David has freedom but no power. The game is a physical demonstration of the idea that different strengths combine to achieve what neither could alone — a concept with clear links to teamwork theory, leadership studies and the Biblical David and Goliath narrative itself.
📖
RE & English Hook
The David and Goliath story is one of the most widely known narratives in Western culture — appearing in the Bible (1 Samuel 17), studied in RE, used as a metaphor in English, Media, and across multiple subjects. Playing a game that literalises that relationship — with unexpected role reversals on who depends on whom — creates a powerful discussion starter about the source material and how stories are retold.

VR Giants' most significant school value is as a teamwork and communication tool — one of very few VR experiences that is structurally collaborative rather than individual. The asymmetric roles force genuine interdependence and communication that solo or same-role co-op games do not. The Free Friend's Pass makes it uniquely cost-effective for school pairs. The David and Goliath narrative framing gives RE and English teachers a direct curriculum hook to the source material. Suitable from age 7 upwards with no content concerns — joyful, family-friendly, and genuinely funny when things go spectacularly wrong.

Bottom line: The most genuinely teamwork-driven VR co-op experience available — and one of the most original concepts in all of VR gaming. The experience of being an enormous Goliath watching a tiny David navigate your hands is extraordinary. The Free Friend's Pass makes it uniquely cost-effective for schools. Early Access means the story isn't yet concluded and polish is ongoing, but the 23-level campaign is a complete, joyful experience right now. Essential for any school interested in VR-based collaborative learning.
👥 The Two Roles
🦣 Goliath (VR Player)
Enormous. Chained to anchor points. Can lift, bridge, shield, throw. Three forms: Rocky (permanent), Temporary (held only), Lava (can't touch David). Cannot move freely — must be summoned by David. Invincible.
🧍 David (2nd Player)
Tiny and agile. Moves freely. Jumps, collects coins, activates switches, summons Goliath to new areas. Vulnerable to fire, spikes and hazards — depends entirely on Goliath for protection and passage.
