Overview

ForeVR Pool is developed by ForeVR Games Inc, the studio behind the growing "ForeVRverse" of party sports titles on Meta Quest — a shared universe of bowling, darts, cornhole, and now pool, all featuring the same art style, social infrastructure, and avatar system. Released in November 2022, it is rated PEGI 3 and available on both Meta Quest (standalone, no PC required) and Steam.

The game's core is 8-ball pool (American rules, solids and stripes) with 9-ball also available. The physics engine handles spin, power, and ball-on-ball collisions with genuine accuracy — reviewers consistently praise the way shots behave realistically once you learn the cue action, with GamingPizza noting the physics "mimick shots' spin and angles" impressively. The cue action itself requires a slight VR-specific adaptation: rather than holding the cue alongside your body as in real life, you hold your aiming hand forward, which most players find becomes natural quickly but does depart from authentic cue technique.

Pass & Play: The Standout Feature for Schools Pass & Play is the mode that makes ForeVR Pool particularly useful in a school context. Two students can play a head-to-head 8-ball match on a single headset, passing it between shots. No second headset is required. For schools where the number of headsets is limited — a common constraint — this effectively doubles the number of students who can be actively competing at any given moment. Combined with the PEGI 3 age rating and the accessible aim-assist system, ForeVR Pool is well-suited to small-group PE enrichment, STEM clubs, or social skills sessions without requiring every participant to have their own device.
The Pool Halls
🍻
Bar / Dive Bar
Classic smoky bar atmosphere. The default starting hall and the most familiar for players who've played pub pool.
🪢
Arcade
Neon-lit arcade setting with hidden nods to other ForeVR titles. Features a dance floor and mini-games accessible between matches.
🏰
Paris
Parisian-themed hall unlocked through progression. A more stylised, elevated aesthetic than the bar setting.
🤠
Western
Saloon-style pool hall. Unlocked at higher player levels.
🎶
YouTube Jukebox
Every hall features a YouTube-powered jukebox you can browse and play from while competing. Set the soundtrack for the session.
🏅
50 Custom Cues
Each cue has distinct stats (spin, power, tip size). Unlocked through level progression. Designs range from lightsaber-style to candy cane to flaming cue.
Aim Assist and Difficulty Settings

ForeVR Pool includes a three-level aim assist system that teachers can configure for different ability levels within the same class:

High: Shows the full shot line from cue ball through target ball to pocket, including deflection. Ideal for complete newcomers who have never played pool.

Medium: Shows the line to the target ball but not the ball's subsequent path. Requires the player to visualise the deflection angle themselves.

Off: No assistance. The player must judge spin, power, and angle entirely from experience. As close to real pool as the game gets.

Curriculum Connection: Angles, Reflection, and Momentum Pool is one of the most readily curriculum-linkable sports for Physics and Maths. The geometry of shot-making (angle of incidence, angle of reflection, tangent lines off cushions) is directly applicable to A-Level and GCSE Physics optics and mechanics. The effect of side spin (sidespin/english) on cue ball path after contact introduces friction, topspin/backspin introduces linear and angular momentum. With the aim assist switched off, asking students to predict the angle of deflection before shooting and then compare with the result is a clean practical exercise in reflection geometry. The ForeVR Pool physics engine is accurate enough that this exercise has genuine validity.

What Critics Say
Use a PotionRecommended
"ForeVR Pool is at its very best when played with others. The variety of pool halls you can unlock bring a really fun atmosphere to the experience, whilst having a jukebox blast out your favourite music gives the game some real party vibes. ForeVR Pool is as much a social experience as it is a gaming one."
GamingPizzaPositive
"The actual gameplay physics are smooth and realistic, mimicking shots' spin and angles. This level of detailing is impressive considering the varying user environments and hardware setups that might affect gameplay."
Rapid Reviews UKEasy to learn
"Easy to learn and hard to master, my favourite type of game. ForeVR Pool starts the way all games should, with a simple tutorial to get you used to the controls."
Use a Potion (on cue action)Minor caveat
"Rather than lining up the cue from the side of my body like I would in real-life, I often found I had to place my cue holding hand directly in front of me to aim and hit shots. It's not a problem and didn't make the game less fun to play, but it did make it feel a little less immersive."
Strengths and Limitations
Strengths
  • PEGI 3 • All ages • No content concerns for any school context
  • Pass & Play: two students compete on one headset
  • Three-level aim assist suits mixed ability groups
  • Good ball physics: spin, trick shots, accurate collisions
  • 8-ball and 9-ball game modes
  • 12 AI opponents of progressive difficulty
  • Online multiplayer: private (room key) or public
  • YouTube jukebox in every hall
  • Available on both Meta Quest and Steam
  • Physics curriculum connection for angles and momentum
Considerations
  • Cue action requires VR-specific technique (hand forward, not side-of-body)
  • Pool hall atmosphere leans arcade rather than authentic billiards
  • Some minor glitches reported (avatar body glitches occasionally)
  • AI opponent pacing can be slow
  • Not a realistic simulation of actual cue sports technique

Verdict
A solid VR pool experience that excels as a social and classroom activity rather than a serious cue sports simulator. The PEGI 3 rating, Pass & Play single-headset two-player mode, and three-level aim assist make it the most deployment-friendly sports title in the category for schools. Physics is accurate enough to support genuine Physics and Maths curriculum discussion around angles, spin, and momentum. The cue action requires minor VR technique adaptation and the pool hall atmosphere is arcade-style rather than authentic, but for accessible competitive fun across all ages and abilities, ForeVR Pool delivers. Best experienced in multiplayer or Pass & Play mode — solo AI matches are enjoyable but the game's real character comes out with another player across the table.
