Overview

Automobilista 2 (AMS2) is developed by Reiza Studios, a Brazilian studio that has been releasing racing simulators since 2011, building on the highly regarded Stock Car Extreme and the original Automobilista. AMS2 represents the culmination of nearly a decade of development, running on the Madness Engine (originally developed for Project CARS, significantly modified by Reiza for its own physics, weather, and dynamic track surface goals).

What sets AMS2 apart is sheer breadth. One Steam reviewer summed it up: "There is a ton of content and variety, especially for the price, especially when on sale. I've had many friends get into AMS2 who previously thought they could never enjoy a sim racing game." The content spans everything from Brazilian Stock Car racing (a series most Western sim racers have never experienced) to historic Formula racing across multiple decades, to GT3, prototypes, rallycross, karts, and even oversized "super trucks with jump ramps."

Class-Leading VR and Motion Rig Support AMS2 is consistently cited as having some of the best VR support of any racing simulator. A 2025 review noted: "VR and motion rig support are excellent, with ongoing optimizations for stability. Cockpit fidelity, UI overhaul, and customizable HUDs were key focus areas in 2024, making the game more accessible to new users while retaining its hardcore appeal." For schools with VR headsets and any motion platform equipment, AMS2 is among the most reliable choices for a smooth seated VR racing experience.

LiveTrack technology simulates dynamic weather, evolving grip levels, and rubbering-in racing lines as a session progresses — track conditions genuinely change as you and the AI drive on them. Reiza has committed to monthly content updates through 2025 and beyond, with new cars, tracks, and physics refinements added continuously.

DLC and Season Pass Model AMS2's base game provides substantial content, but the full roster — particularly newer licensed content like the Fernando Alonso Formula 1 car DLCs — is accessed through a Season Pass or "Paddock Club" membership model. Reiza has also released some content for free when licensing restrictions required it (e.g. Renault F1 cars released free following a McLaren licence restriction). Budget for the base game plus at least one season of DLC for a representative content library. A Steam reviewer noted: "If you must have a full roster of officially licensed cars in some particular class, you may be disappointed... these aren't the reasons to get the game."

Verdict
A genuinely extraordinary breadth of racing content from a studio with a decade of dedicated motorsport simulation expertise. Steambase 92/100 from 12,000+ reviews, class-leading VR and motion rig support, and a unique window into Brazilian motorsport history that no Western sim offers. The DLC model means the full roster requires investment beyond the base game, but the base content alone provides excellent value, especially on sale. For schools wanting one comprehensive VR racing simulator covering Physics (aerodynamics, tyre grip, weight transfer) across an enormous variety of vehicle classes, AMS2 is an outstanding choice.
