Overview

All On Board is a VR board game platform developed by The Game Kitchen, the Spanish studio best known for the atmospheric Blasphemous action games. Launched on Meta Quest 2/3 and SteamVR on February 27, 2025 following a successful Kickstarter campaign that raised $70,402 from 1,055 backers, it positions itself as "the only tabletop platform natively built for VR" — designed to replicate the social experience of sitting around a table without the setup, storage, or geographical constraints of physical board games.

The base game at $9.99 includes four classics: Chess, Go, Checkers, and Parchisi (Ludo). Licensed modern titles are available as additional purchases, with each playable for 25 minutes before deciding whether to buy. Crucially, only the host needs to own a game — friends in the same session can play without purchasing it themselves. Cross-platform play connects Meta Quest and SteamVR users at the same table.

The Friend-Plays-Free Model: Exceptional for Groups and Schools The single most school-friendly feature of All On Board is that only one device in a group needs to own a licensed game. A teacher with a school headset who purchases Terraforming Mars can host a session where students on their own Quest headsets join without any additional cost. For schools managing multiple headsets and limited budgets, this is a genuinely significant advantage. The 25-minute free trial per licensed game before purchase also reduces financial risk considerably.

The Quest 3 mixed reality mode lets you place the virtual board on an actual physical table in the room, blending the digital game with your real environment. UploadVR described the platform as operating "like a well-dressed social platform" with themed virtual rooms providing atmosphere beyond a plain table. The VR Realm noted that the themed rooms — formal studies, garden spaces, atmospheric environments — make the game feel like a social occasion rather than just a digital utility.

Early Platform Note All On Board launched in February 2025 and was still actively developing at time of review. Rule enforcement was not yet active at launch (players could theoretically cheat), and there were no AI opponents for solo play. The roadmap from The Game Kitchen is credible and actively delivered — the August 2025 v1.1 update added new content — but schools buying now should expect a platform that will improve rather than one that is fully mature. The base games (Chess, Go, Checkers, Parchisi) are solid and stable.
What Critics Say
UploadVRReview-in-Progress
"All on Board operates more like a well-dressed social platform than a game. It offers a fun platform to play board games in impeccably dressed virtual spaces, but it needs more time."
The VR RealmPositive
"All on Board is a tabletop and board game simulator that takes advantage of VR to create an even more engaging experience, making it feel like a lively social event with friends, no matter where you are."
Mixed-News.comRecommended
"If The Game Kitchen delivers on their promised updates and refinements, All on Board will undoubtedly become the definitive VR board gaming experience. Cross-platform support between Meta Quest and SteamVR ensures a healthy player base, while save states eliminate the 'just one more turn' problem."

Verdict
An ambitious and well-conceived VR board game platform from the makers of Blasphemous, with an exceptional friend-plays-free model that makes it particularly attractive for schools managing multiple headsets. The base game at $9.99 with Chess, Go, Checkers, and Parchisi is excellent value. Licensed modern titles available as DLC with 25-minute free trials before purchase. The platform was still early-stage at launch (no AI opponents, no rule enforcement), but the active development roadmap and credible developer suggest these will be addressed. For schools wanting to host multiplayer board game sessions in VR, this is currently the best option available.
