TriptoVR
A VR travel app that puts 100+ of the world's most breathtaking destinations inside your headset — all filmed on location in immersive 360° video by VR Gorilla, specialists in VR video production. Start from a view of Earth from space, spin the globe, zoom in on any continent and step inside Venice's gondola canals, Tokyo's Shibuya Crossing, the peaks of Machu Picchu or Cape Town's Atlantic coastline — with expert narration on the history, culture and hidden gems of every destination.
TriptoVR is free to download with no sign-up required. Two destinations are immediately accessible at no cost — enough for a classroom taster session. A 7-day free trial unlocks the full library of 100+ destinations, with no commitment required. After the trial, a subscription is needed to access the full content library. For school use, the 2 free destinations + 7-day trial make it easy to run a complete pilot session before any budget commitment is needed.
What is TriptoVR?
TriptoVR is a VR travel application developed by VR Gorilla BV — a Dutch studio that specialises in immersive 360-degree video production. Unlike interactive VR games that build 3D environments, TriptoVR's content is filmed on location: a camera crew visits each destination and captures it in 360-degree video, which is then delivered inside the headset as a fully immersive experience. The result is the closest thing to actually being somewhere that VR currently offers — real places, real light, real atmosphere, real people going about their day around you.
The app opens with a view of Earth from space — a dramatic 3D globe that you can spin with your controller, zoom into any continent, and use to navigate to your chosen destination. Once selected, you are placed directly inside the location in immersive 360° video, with expert narration guiding you through the history, culture and highlights of each place. The narration is thoughtfully written — not a dry tourist guide but a warm, contextual introduction to each destination's character and significance.
With a new destination added every single week and 100+ already in the library, TriptoVR has the broadest destination catalogue of any VR travel app on Meta Quest. Content spans all seven continents — from the ancient ruins of Rome to the glaciers of Norway, from the souks of Marrakech to the temples of Kyoto. Curated thematic collections group destinations by topic: Bucket List, Eastern Europe, Ancient History, Island Escapes, Relaxation & Mindfulness, Scandinavia, the Americas, and more — each directly relevant to geography, history or cultural studies curricula.
What's Inside
Curriculum & Educational Fit
TriptoVR's strongest educational application is Geography — particularly for schools teaching GCSE Geography where students are expected to understand distant and contrasting locations that few will have visited. Being able to stand inside a favela in Lima, on a gondola in Venice, or at the foot of Machu Picchu provides a visceral, memorable context that no photograph or video on a classroom screen can replicate. The immersive 360° format and guided narration together make each destination a genuinely enriching experience rather than passive viewing.
For History, the Ancient History & Civilisations collection provides direct access to sites like the Colosseum, Athenian ruins and Machu Picchu — bringing the physical scale and environment of historical sites to life in a way that classroom images cannot. For Cultural Studies and PSHE, exploring the daily life, architecture and cultural character of diverse global cities builds genuine empathy and curiosity about other ways of living. For Wellbeing, the calming nature destinations — Norwegian fjords, tropical islands, peaceful mountain landscapes — make TriptoVR one of the most effective relaxation tools in the VR library: students who are anxious, distressed or simply overstimulated can be offered a few minutes of genuine escape. For EAL students, visiting virtual versions of their heritage country or region in a lesson can be a powerful moment of inclusion and recognition.
