Virtual Fighting Championship (VFC)
Here are the key facts about Virtual Fighting Championship (VFC):
What it is VFC is a VR fighting and fitness game inspired by classics like Street Fighter and Tekken, bringing their spirit into an immersive VR world. Rather than a pure boxing sim, it blends realistic martial arts mechanics with over-the-top action — described as “Street Fighter in VR.”
Design Philosophy VFC is explicitly not a boxing purist game. It is visually extravagant, stylistically freeform, and less “serious” than titles like Thrill of the Fight. Real-world fighting skills absolutely matter, but the game also embraces fantasy elements and unshackles real-life restraints.
Combat Mechanics All attacks are physics-based, with damage calculated from the speed and technique of your actual movements. Players can perform jabs, hooks, crossovers, Dempsey rolls, and various ability-based moves. Proper punching technique is rewarded not because the game forces it, but because it genuinely produces better results. Hit-box recognition under high-speed VR movement was a specific technical challenge the developers addressed.
Game Modes VFC features a wide range of modes including 1v1 PvP cage fights, a global competitive PvP ladder, single-player Colosseum battles, co-op raid fights, endurance training, striking drills, and wave-survival arena modes. It even includes an in-game running competition.
Multiplayer Focus PvP is at the core of VFC. Players can queue into online matches even while playing offline modes. The game hosts weekly casual fights and seasonal tournaments via its online community, and has been cited as a potential esport.
Single-Player A lighthearted single-player campaign is included, featuring tactful AI opponents that each fight with diverse styles. Despite being described as lighthearted, it is noted as genuinely challenging.
Awards & Recognition VFC won the 2022 Qualcomm XR Innovation Challenge Platinum Award, was named one of the seven best VR games by PCWorld, and attracted one of the biggest crowds at PAX Australia.
Steam Reception Holds a “Mostly Positive” rating on Steam with around 70% positive reviews across 172 ratings.
Play Space Requires a room-scale area of at least 2m x 1.5m.
Platforms Available on Meta Quest and Steam (PCVR). A free-to-play model is used on Steam.
Sequel A sequel, VFC2, has been released (or is in development), adding gestures that trigger special moves like shockwaves and fireballs — leaning further into the Street Fighter and Dragon Ball style of spectacle fighting.
